Introduction
What follows is a behind the scenes look at the commissioned portrait making process. While painting on commission is not for every artist, I really enjoy the idea of painting something that I know from the outset will be cherished by someone. I have always felt I could combine painting what I love to paint with what others wants to own to enrich their lives. Commissions are the answer.
This demonstration is written for two audiences. One is other artists, as we are a curious bunch, always interested in how someone else paints. The other is the portrait client or potential client so he or she can learn the many facets involved. From the initial meeting, through my planning and preparations, to the actual painting process, I invite you to look over my shoulder.
