ABOUT GRACE'S PORTRAIT
The story behind Grace's portrait is that she is one of three sisters whose portraits I painted, and the only one I thought to photograph in progress! Her mother had definite ideas about the poses, but gave me complete painting freedom. She wanted three separate paintings so that each would focus on each girl's special personality. A different client might choose to have me paint the siblings together in order to emphasize the relationship. This is a very personal choice.
THE PHOTO SHOOT
Grace's dress had been chosen before I arrived, and she was to pose at the family's heirloom piano. I set up a light source and photographed her both standing and sitting at the piano and both from the left and, after moving the lighting, from the right. She told me she had her hands posed at the "C" chord and was a delightful model.
